Mumbai: The BSE Sensex dropped 118.96 points to end at 81,785.74 on September 15, 2025, Monday. Intraday, it hit a high of 81,998.51 and a low of 81,744.70. The 50-share NSE Nifty closed lower by 44.80 points to 25,069.20.
The benchmark indices declined due to profit-taking in IT and auto shares ahead of the US Fed policy meeting.

What stock market expert said on trading sentiments

The laggards from the Sensex pack included Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Titan, Sun Pharma, Tata Consultancy Services, Power Grid, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Asian Paints. Gainers included Reliance Industries, Eternal, UltraTech Cement and Bajaj Finance.
"Benchmark indices traded largely flat as investors remained cautious ahead of the Fed policy meeting, with the IT index witnessing profit-booking after last week’s rally. While a 25-bps rate cut is largely factored in, markets await guidance on the future rate path to gauge the trajectory for bond yields.
"Strong domestic consumption continues to underpin sentiment and limit downside, while renewed optimism around trade deals and an expected earnings recovery in H2FY26 are further supporting investor confidence," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited, was quoted by PTI as saying.
On 12th September, the BSE barometer jumped 355.97 points to finish at 81,904.70. The Nifty jumped 108.50 points to 25,114.
Last week, the 30-share BSE registered a jump of 1,193.94 points and the Nifty appreciated 373 points. The 50-share Nifty surged 534.4 points.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng and South Korea's Kospi ended in positive territory. The US stock markets closed on a mixed note on 12 September. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.60 per cent to USD 67.39 a barrel.
