New Delhi: The post-graduate medical classes are set to start on December 8 after months of delays and uncertainty, as per the state quota counselling schedule released by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). This comes after three months of the conduct of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) exam. The commencement of the PG medical academic session from December has brought relief to nearly 1.38 lakh qualified candidates. Last year, the PG medical classes started on December 20.
The NEET PG counselling schedule for the 50 per cent All India Quota seats and the state quota seats has been made available nearly three months after the exam.
There will be a total of four rounds of counselling to fill the AIQ and state quota seats. Round 1 of the AIQ NEET PG counselling will be conducted by MC. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) announced the NEET PG 2025 results on August 19, however, the MCC did not share any information regarding the counselling process. As per doctors the counselling was halted because the NMC had not approved the seat matrix and the Supreme Court was hearing the transparency pleas.
The apex court which heard a set of pleas seeking NEET PG exam transparency in the previous months had sought NBEMS’ response and scheduled the hearing for October 28, 2025.
