New Delhi: Singer and voice artiste Chinmayi Sripada has spoken out once again about the targeted online abuse she’s been facing, revealing that she was sent a morphed nude image on Wednesday evening. The incident was immediately escalated to Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, as Chinmayi shared both the image and a detailed video describing the harassment she and her family have endured in recent weeks.

According to Chinmayi, the latest wave of abuse intensified after her husband, filmmaker-actor Rahul Ravindran, commented on the mangalasutra a few weeks ago. She explained that trolling escalated rapidly, with multiple accounts directing threats and hateful messages toward her and her children. “I got a morphed image from a page today and tagged the cops – whether legal action will happen or not is not the issue,” she wrote in her post.

In her video, Chinmayi described the severity of the attacks. “I have been abused, my children have been given death threats. I have filed a police complaint against a few on the Twitter Spaces who said that the kind of women they don’t like shouldn’t ever have children, and if they do, their children must die. There were men applauding and laughing at this,” she said, calling the online behaviour both disturbing and dangerous.

The singer added that harassment has followed her relentlessly ever since she named a well-known lyricist during the MeToo movement. “A lot of people have abused me; they have been paid for by political groups. There was a particular Tweet today that shared a morphed photo of me in the nude. I am sharing so women know these kinds of things happen, men do this to push us out of public spaces,” she explained.

Chinmayi warned that with the rise of deepfakes and AI manipulation, more women will likely face similar online attacks, especially those who speak out or disagree with influential men. She stated firmly, “I am not the kind of woman who is shamed by this.” She urged women, girls, and parents to take legal action without hesitation if they encounter such harassment.

More about Chinmayi Sripada

For those unaware, Chinmayi remains one of the strongest voices from India’s MeToo movement. In 2018, she accused lyricist Vairamuthu of sexual harassment and amplified allegations against musicians, including OS Thyagarajan, Raghu Dixit, and Karthik. After speaking up, her membership in the Tamil Film Dubbing Union was terminated by president Radha Ravi, citing unpaid fees, an action she has challenged in court.
