New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed the National Democratic Alliance's sweeping mandate in Bihar as a historic moment and declared that the victory had opened the road for the Bharatiya Janata Party's rise in West Bengal. Addressing party workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, PM Modi said the flow of the Ganga -- from Bihar to Bengal -- symbolised the momentum that would carry the party to power in the neighbouring state.
"Ganga flows through Bihar and reaches Bengal. Bihar has paved the way for the BJP's victory in Bengal. I congratulate the brothers and sisters of Bengal. Now, together with you, the BJP will uproot jungle raj from West Bengal as well," he said, assuring people in the state that the era of lawlessness would be brought to an end.
PM Modi, wearing a gamchha adorned with Mithila painting as a gesture of cultural connection, described the Bihar mandate as a rejection of falsehoods and a reaffirmation of public trust. He said the victory had given rise to a new "M-Y formula" -- Mahila and Youth -- countering what he described as the "communal M-Y formula" of the Opposition's "jungle raj" years.
"Bihar has shown again that lies are defeated and people's trust wins," he said, adding that the same trust would guide the party's expansion across eastern India.
In a scathing attack on the Congress, Modi accused it of transforming into what he termed the "Muslimleegi Maowadi Congress (MMC)" and predicted an impending split within the party. Without naming anyone, he said certain "naamdars" were drowning their own organisation and dragging allies down with them. He warned regional partners of the Congress that the party had become a "parasite" and a "liability".
The prime minister also praised Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar for his leadership and congratulated NDA allies for the resounding win. "The people of Bihar, with this massive victory and their unshakable confidence, have taken the state by storm," Modi said, using the local phrase 'garda uda diya' to describe the scale of the mandate.
Earlier in the day, the Bengal unit of BJP also shared a post on X, "Next West Bengal". This was in reference to party's strong performance in Bihar. Bengal will go to polls in 2026 along with several other states.
