Srikakulam:
A woman from Srikakulam district has died in Muscat, Oman under suspicious circumstances. The woman identified as Nagamani of Vedulavalasa village, Amadalavalasa mandal was working in Muscat over the last four years.
Nagamani’s mother Sarojini, expressed doubts about the circumstances under which her daughter died. She stated that her daughter went to Muscat through an agent and that she came home four months ago and went back. A few days ago, Nagamani had called her mother and informed her that she was facing harassment from her employer and that she planned to come back to India.
A few days later, the agent had called Sarojini to tell that her daughter had died by suicide. The issue has been brought to the notice of MLA Kuna Ravi Kumar, who escalated it up to Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. Efforts are underway to bring the woman’s body back to the country, the victim’s mother said.
Young student dies by suicide:
A 20-year-old student died by suicide at Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) hostel in Srikakulam, reports said.
The deceased identified as Prathipati Srujan, was a third-year engineering student and originally hailed from Guntur district. Srikakulam district SP KV Maheshwara Reddy said that Srujan hanged himself to death in his hostel room.
College officials have shifted Srujan's body to Srikakulam Sarvajana Hospital. Etcherla Police have registered a case and are investigating. The reasons for the student's suicide are yet to be ascertained.
