Kadapa: A student of class 9, from Pulivendula, died under suspicious circumstances at Chaitanya Residential Campus K 7 on the outskirts of Kadapa city.
The school management initially told the parents that Jaswanthi, their daughter, fell unconscious but upon arriving at the hospital, the parents discovered that their daughter was declared dead.
The parents and relatives of the girl said that the management kept her death a secret and accused the school of negligence and failure to ensure the wellbeing of the students. Kadapa police said that the school management immediately informed them after finding the student's body, which was sent to Kadapa RIMS Hospital.
Jaswanthi’s parents tried to protest in front of the school with her body, demanding justice for their daughter and action against the school management. Police dispersed the protest shortly after.
Nara Lokesh orders investigation:
Andhra Pradesh’s IT Minister Nara Lokesh ordered a detailed inquiry and sought a report from Kadapa District Education Officer (DEO), after videos of the protest circulated on social media.
A preliminary report by the DEO stated that the child had been suffering from severe migraine for many months and she might have taken this extreme step because of unbearable pain, as per information provided by her classmates.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. Jaswanthi's family members agreed to the postmortem after the police assured them that the victims would be severely punished.
