70 injured as two loco trains collide inside Uttarakhand hydropower tunnel; rescue and enquiry launched

A serious accident occurred in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday night when two internal transport trains collided inside a tunnel at the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti hydropower project run by THDC. The incident happened around 9:30 pm during a routine shift change. According to officials, a total of 109 workers were onboard the two trains at the time of the collision. The crash left at least 70 workers injured, triggering a major rescue and medical response.

Dense fog engulfs Delhi-NCR, visibility drops to zero in early hours; AQI back in 'severe'

A thick layer of fog enveloped Delhi and adjoining areas on Wednesday morning, leading to low visibility in several areas, affecting vehicular movement and disrupting flight operations at the airport. The dense fog also pushed the air quality back into the "severe" category, with the city recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 407. The AQI hovered between 350 and 450 in most parts of the national capital, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

'Armed conflict between India and Pakistan likely in 2026 over terrorist activity': US think tank

India and Pakistan are likely to engage in an "armed conflict" in 2026, owing to "heightened terrorist activity", a report by a US think tank said. The Council on Foreign Relations report further said that the Trump administration had "sought to end" the conflict between New Delhi and Islamabad in May. Gig workers’ unions have called for a strike all over the nation on December 31, demanding a ban on ‘10-minute’ delivery along with other demands. The online delivery of several platforms will be hit as a result, with gig workers demanding fair and transparent wages, improved social security, and protection of right to organise and collectively bargain, among other demands.
