Breaking News Live Updates, January 7,2026: President Donald Trump has said on his social media site that "Interim Authorities” in Venezuela would be providing 30 million to 50 million barrels of "High Quality” oil to the US at its market price. The announcement on Tuesday came after officials in Caracas announced that at least 24 Venezuelan security officers were killed in the dead-of-night US military operation to capture Nicolás Maduro and spirit him to the United States to face drug charges.
Trump posted on Truth Social that the oil "will be taken by storage ships, and brought directly to unloading docks in the United States.” He said the money would be controlled by him as president but it would be used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States.

Police in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Wednesday registered a case against four persons over the alleged "sale” of a 20-year-old tribal woman for Rs 3 lakh under the pretext of marriage and her harassment, an official said on Wednesday. The woman, who belongs to the Katkari community, alleged that she was forced to marry a man from Nashik in May 2024.
The man and his mother allegedly paid Rs 3 lakh to two middlemen, who then trafficked the young woman and facilitated her marriage, the official said, citing the FIR.
Kuki group says community members will not participate in govt formation
An organisation of the Kuki tribe in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Tuesday said the Kuki-Zo people "cannot and shall not” participate in the formation of the state government, reiterating their demand for a separate administrative arrangement. Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February last year. At least 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in the ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and hills-based Kuki-Zo groups since May, 2023.

Gurugram: Woman takes hours-long ride in cab, threatens driver with molestation when asked for fare
A woman here literally took a cab driver for a ride when she refused to pay the fare after an hours-long drive and threatened him with police action, authorities said on Tuesday. According to police, cab driver Ziauddin filed a complaint alleging that a female passenger, Jyoti Dalal, booked a ride with him at 8 am Tuesday and asked him to take her to Sector 31, then to the bus stand, and then to Cyber City.
"She asked for some money, and I gave her Rs 700. She ate and drank at various places, and I made all the payments. In the afternoon, when I demanded she pay and end the ride, she became enraged," Ziauddin, a native of Dhana village in Nuh district, said.

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar district have ordered the closure of all schools up to class 8 till January 10 in view of the dense fog and severe cold conditions, officials said on Tuesday. The order applies to all recognised schools affiliated with the CBSE, ICSE, IB, the Uttar Pradesh Board and other boards operating in the district, District Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar said in an official order.

Three people were arrested in the Rani Pokhri area here for allegedly collecting quilts and mattresses discarded by people after the death of their kin and selling them, police said on Tuesday. They said people saw belongings of their dead kin up for sale at a shop and approached the police as it hurt their sentiments.
After investigation, the police arrested Salman, 24, a resident of Amroha district in Uttar Pradesh, who runs the shop, his father Hamid Ali, 55, and 35-year-old Sanjay, a resident of Rishikesh, who supplied them with the quilts and mattresses.
