New Delhi: In a tragic incident in Maharashtra's Nagpur, a 29-year-old kabaddi player has allegedly died by suicide. The reason behind her alleged drastic step is reportedly her husband not getting her the promised job and realising that she had been deceived.
In 2020, the national-level kabaddi player Kiran Suraj Dadhe, hailing from an economically weak family, married 30-year-old Swapnil Jaydev Lambghare, who had promised her and her brother jobs.
Kiran dreamt of overcoming her financial struggles, but she later realised, according to reports, that Swapnil had lied. Not only did he keep delaying the job offer, but he also mentally harassed her and demanded sexual favours, according to the allegation levelled at Swapnil. His reported deeds forced Kiran to leave the house and move back to her parents' house.
Her family forced her to file a divorce petition in a family court after Kiran reportedly began to get threats and verbal abuse. She saved the messages as evidence, and allegedly tried to die by suicide on December 4 by consuming poison. She was taken to a hospital, and three days later, the kabaddi player breathed her last.
A case has been registered against Swapnil under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with abetment of suicide. The police are currently searching for the accused.
