‘Realised my passion lived elsewhere’: Chennai woman on quitting Rs 30 LKA job to travel

Chennai: A woman in Chennai took to social media on Saturday to inform that she recently quit her corporate job to travel. Her message has struck a chord with thousands online. The woman said she was working in Oracle and was earning Rs 30 Lakhs Per Annum.

Taking to Instagram, the woman shared a video informing of her decision. She also said that her video did not encourage others to do the same. “This video is not an inspiration for anyone to quit their job and follow their dreams,” she wrote. The woman added that she was contemplating the decision for the last five years, but its only now that she implemented. The woman added that she did everything that is expected in society.

‘Ticked every single box’

“I ticked every single box: graduated, got a job, got married, took care of my parents, built a house, except for having kids. But somewhere along the way, I realised my passion lived elsewhere,” she wrote in her Instagram account.

She added, “ For years, I juggled a hectic 9–5 on weekdays and travelled or trekked every weekend, trying to keep both worlds alive. But slowly, I lost interest in climbing the corporate ladder. The same meetings, the same sprints, the same code… it all started to feel like a loop I couldn’t escape.”

Reason behind continuing a corporate job

“I kept pushing through because that’s what we’re taught: to be grateful, to be stable, to not take risks. But the burnout was real. I was tired of living two separate lives: one that paid my bills, and another that actually made me feel alive,” she said, further explaining the reason behind he decision to continue in the corporate world. Her post has led to discussions around career burnout, societal expectations, and the increasing number of professionals looking for traditional career paths.
