Chennai: The Chennai Regional Meteorological Department has forecast moderate rainfall for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next six days, starting today. The weather agency also indicated the likelihood of thunderstorms and lightning showers in some areas of Chennai city.
According to the latest bulletin, a low-level atmospheric circulation is persisting over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions. This system is expected to bring moderate—but not heavy—rainfall to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Friday.
Chennai weather today
In Chennai and its suburbs, the sky will remain partly cloudy, with a chance of moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in certain parts of the city. Daytime temperatures are expected to hover between 29°C and 30°C, while night time temperatures may drop to around 24°C.
The forecast follows a week of heavy downpours across the state, triggered by Cyclone Ditwah, which has since weakened into a deep depression. The cyclone’s impact led to significant rainfall in several districts, including Chennai, causing waterlogging and disruption in low-lying areas.
The Met Department has also provided an extended outlook, predicting light to moderate rain at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal between December 7 and 11.
