Tenkasi: A political firestorm has erupted in Tamil Nadu after DMK's Tenkasi South District in-charge, J. Jayabalan, used highly inflammatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the state BJP labelling it a "death threat" and demanding immediate arrest. The incident occurred during a protest against the Special Intensive Voter List Revision (SIR) work, causing widespread shock and condemnation.

The Inflammatory Speech: "Narakasura" Remark and Call for "Elimination"

During a public gathering, J. Jayabalan launched a virulent attack on the Prime Minister. "(PM) Modi is attempting to steal your votes. He is another Narakasura (a demon king from mythology). Tamil Nadu would improve, only if he is finished off," Jayabalan was quoted as saying. The use of the term "finished off" has been interpreted by political opponents as a direct threat against the Prime Minister's life, escalating political rhetoric to a potentially dangerous level.

BJP's Furious Response: Condemnation and Demand for Arrest

The Tamil Nadu BJP unit, led by its state president Nainar Nagendran, reacted swiftly and fiercely. Nagendran took to social media platform X to demand the immediate arrest of J. Jayabalan. He condemned the statement as a "death threat" to a globally respected leader and stated that it raises serious doubts about the law and order situation and political culture in Tamil Nadu.

Further intensifying the attack, Nagendran criticized the silence of other DMK leaders present at the event, including Tenkasi MP Rani Sreekumar and Sankarankovil MLA E. Raja. He asserted that their failure to condemn the speech in real-time "shows malice" and implies consent from the party's senior ranks.

The BJP leader also highlighted the timing of the remark, stressing that Jayabalan spoke "in a way that threatens the Prime Minister's security when he is coming to Tamil Nadu."
