Telangana High Court on Tuesday heard a petition, challenging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) preliminary notification for ward delimitation.

The petitioner argued that the delimitation was done arbitrarily without considering their arguments and objections. He objected to the merger of some houses in the existing Ramnagar division with Adikmet division-163.

Senior Advocate L Ravichander arguing on behalf of the petitioner, said, “A proposal to merge municipalities into GHMC was brought forward through a GO on December 3 and a notification was issued on December 8. They claim to have completed the process of increasing the number of divisions to 300 within 5 or 6 days.

How was such a large undertaking completed in just 6 days? Will only the objections of the people within the GHMC limits be considered? The map of the 300 divisions has also not been provided. They are violating the 74th (9) amendment of the Constitution.”

GHMC: Final decision after examining all objections:

The counsel for GHMC said that the civic body has not rejected the petitioner’s objections and that they will take a final decision only after examining all objections.

After hearing both sides, Justice B Vijaysen Reddy said, “The petitioner thinks he is very clever. The officials see 1000 people like you every day.”

The High Court ordered GHMC to consider the petitioner's objections as per Rule 4. The hearing has been adjourned till Wednesday, December 17.

Legislators hit out at GHMC:

Legislators from Congress, BRS, BJP have said that the exercise has been unplanned and arbitrary. BRS leaders said that the process lacks transparency and that there was no consultation with political parties or the public.
