First leg of three-nation tour

Jordan marks the first stop of PM Modi’s three-nation tour, aimed at strengthening India’s engagement with partner countries. Ahead of the visit, the Prime Minister had said that the trip would help deepen bilateral linkages between India and Jordan.

During the talks, PM Modi expressed confidence that the meeting would provide fresh momentum to India–Jordan relations.

“We will continue our cooperation in areas such as trade, fertilisers, digital technology, infrastructure and people-to-people ties,” he said.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the shared approach of both countries on security challenges, particularly terrorism, and appreciated King Abdullah II’s role in regional affairs, including the Gaza issue.

Shared stand on terrorism

“We hope that peace and stability will prevail in the region. We share a common and clear stance against terrorism. Under your leadership, Jordan has sent a strong and strategic message to the world against terrorism, extremism, and radicalisation,” PM Modi said.

Thanking the Jordanian leadership for the warm hospitality, PM Modi said that the year marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“You have shared very positive ideas for taking India-Jordan relations to new heights. I sincerely thank you for your friendship and your deep commitment to India. This year, we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. This milestone will continue to inspire us to move forward with renewed energy for many years to come,” he said.

MoUs signed

On the occasion of the visit, both sides concluded several MoUs covering culture, renewable energy, water management, digital public infrastructure, and a twinning arrangement between Petra and Ellora. These agreements are expected to significantly strengthen India–Jordan bilateral relations and deepen the longstanding friendship between the two countries.

The discussions were followed by a banquet dinner hosted by His Majesty King Abdullah II in honour of the Prime Minister. During the engagement, Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to His Majesty to visit India, which was graciously accepted.

Emphasis on moderation and past engagements

Recalling past engagements, PM Modi referred to King Abdullah II’s visit to India in 2018 and their joint participation in a conference on Islamic heritage.

“Your efforts to promote moderation are extremely important not only for regional peace but also for global peace,” PM Modi told King Abdullah II.

“I recall that our first meeting also took place on the sidelines of the U.N. in 2015, at an event focused on countering violent extremism. Even then, you delivered inspirational remarks on this subject,” he added.

The Prime Minister said India and Jordan would continue to advance cooperation across all sectors and work together on shared priorities.

Welcoming PM Modi, King Abdullah II said the visit carried special significance for Jordan.

“All Jordanians welcome you back to Jordan,” he said.

“Your presence here carries deep significance as our countries mark 75 years of diplomatic relations. I believe this visit reflects decades of friendship, mutual respect and productive cooperation between our two nations,” the Jordanian monarch added.
