New Delhi: Delhi on Monday evening was rocked by a major blast near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. The explosion has killed nine people and injured 20, most of whom are being treated at the LNJP Hospital. The national capital has been put on high alert following the incident, with security beefed up in other places like Mumbai and Bihar, where the second phase of Assembly elections will take place on November 11.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "We are conducting an investigation. I hope we will find out the cause of the blast very soon." He said that the blast took place in a Hyundai i20 car near the Red Fort at around 7 pm. It damaged three to four vehicles.
According to Shah, the Delhi Police Special Cell, Crime Branch, NIA team, SPG team, and FSL team are probing the blast and are expected to find out its cause "within a short time". He also informed that "tomorrow morning, a meeting will be conducted with a team of senior officials at the Home Ministry."
HM Shah was asked if the Delhi blast was a terrorist attack, to which he replied, "We are keeping all angles open and investigating from all angles. It is very difficult to say what caused the incident. Until the samples recovered from the blast site are analysed by FSL and NSG, it is difficult to say anything about it. However, we do not consider any angle closed. We will investigate all angles with determination."
The car that exploded was a registered car from Gurugram with the number HR26. It was an i20 car and was registered in the name of Mohammad Salman. Based on information received by the Gurugram police from the Delhi Police, Mohammad Salman has been detained and interrogated.
During interrogation, Salman revealed that he had sold his car a year and a half ago to Devendra, a resident of Delhi's Okhla. Salman has handed over all the documents related to the sale of the car to the Gurugram Police.
Now, the police will conduct a further probe at Okhla, where the car was purchased. The investigation has revealed that Devendra sold the car to someone in Haryana's Ambala. The Ambala police are investigating the matter, and the Gurugram police are sharing all information with the investigating agency.
