New Delhi: Govardhan Puja is celebrated in honour of Lord Krishna, who lifted the Govardhan Hill with his finger for seven days to protect the villagers of Vrindavan from a terrible rainstorm. Legend mentions that the villagers had been worshipping Rain God Indra initially. But on Krishna’s advice, they started revering Govardhan Hill. It invited the wrath of Indra, and subsequently, Krishna had to intervene. This year, Govardhan Puja will be observed on October 22.
