New Delhi: Radha Ashtami, a significant Hindu festival, celebrates the birth of Radha Rani, the divine consort of Krishna. This auspicious festival falls on the Ashtami Tithi during the Shukla Paksha of the Bhadrapada month, usually between August and September in the English calendar, exactly 15 days after Janmashtami. In 2025, Radha Ashtami is observed today (on August 31). This festival is marked by special prayers, fasting, and devotional songs at home, temples and many institutions dedicated to Radha Rani, who symbolises unconditional love and devotion.
Legends mention that Goddess Lakshmi incarnated as Radha Rani in Barsana after she felt the absence of Lord Vishnu, who had ascended on the earth as Lord Krishna. Other than decorating Radha Rani in beautiful clothes and ornaments, devotees offer her favourite bhog or sacred offerings. They believe that offering prayers and bhog on this day brings blessings of love, compassion, and peace.
Here are the special bhogs you can offer Radha Rani on Radhashtami 2025.
1. Arbi vegetable with curd
Devotees believe Radha Rani’s favourite dish is arbi or colocasia vegetable made with curd and spices. This delectable dish is locally known as dahi arbi ki sabzi. It also carries deep religious significance as offering this to Radha Rani on her birthday is believed to bring joy and prosperity to the household.
2. Panchamrit
Panchamrit, a blend of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and Gangajal, is a must-have bhog during any Hindu festival. A favourite of Radhe-Krishna, preparing and offering it on Radha Ashtami with love is said to purify the mind and soul while attracting divine blessings.
3. Malpua
Lord Krishna loved the malpuas cooked by Radha Rani. It is usually made with flour, milk, and sugar, fried in ghee and soaked in syrup. So, offering this sweet dish to both invites love and joy into the lives of devotees.
4. Rabri
Rabri, a creamy dessert made with thickened milk and sugar, is another bhog loved by Radha and Krishna. Offering rabri to Radha and Krishna on Radhashtami is considered to bring joy, peace, and fulfilment to devotees.
5. Betel leaf
Offering betel leaf or paan as prasad to Goddess Radha pleases both Lord Krishna and his divine consort. It shows devotion, respect, and completeness of the bhog ceremony.
From an arbi vegetable dish to malpua and betel leaf, each bhog expresses your devotion and love. So, enjoy Radha Ashtami and have a joyous, peaceful life!
