New Delhi: South Africa bounced back in a emphatic manner in the second T20I against India on Thursday winning it comprehensively by 51 runs. By virtue of the victory, the Proteas drew 1-1 parity in the five-match series.
Batting first, South Africa scored a massive total of 213 for 4 in the stipulated 20 overs with India being bundled out for 162 runs in 19.1 overs. Tilak Varma was the highest scorer for the side with 62 runs while skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill failed to deliver once again. At the post-match presentation, skipper Suryakumar explained the main reason behind India's heavy defeat in the second match.
The Indian skipper admitted that they should have had a second plan while bowling in the first innings which they didn't. He also admitted that he along with Shubman Gill should have contributed for the side with the bat as they always can't rely on Abhishek Sharma to fire and deliver as he too will have some off days.
Further commenting on the defeat, he said that they will take all the learnings from this match into the other upcoming encounters and try to do better in them.
'Think should have batted then. I mean, we bowled first and there was not enough we could do. We could have just come back nicely because we bowled first and then later on they realized how the lengths are important on this wicket. But yeah, it's a learning process. Just learn and move forward. A little bit of dew as well and also if it wasn't working, we should have had a second plan, but we didn't go to that.'
'We learned from that and then we try and execute in the next game. I think myself, Shubman, we could have given a good start because we can't rely on Abhishek all the time. The way he's been batting, he might have an off-day. Me, Shubman and few other batters should have taken it. I think it would have been a smart chase. But then it's okay, Shubman got out on the first ball. But yeah, I should have taken that responsibility, batted a little deeper. But yeah, as I said, we learn, we try and do better in the next game to come.'
Both the sides engage in the third T20I match on Sunday in Dharamsala.
