Maharashtra sees coldest winter in 5 years; Pune shivers at 8 degrees Celsius
The IMD has reported a significant rise in 'cold wave' and 'severe cold wave' days in Maharashtra since 2020. The state has been witnessing an intense winter and has recorded five 'cold wave' days between November and 9 December, unlike previous years that had fewer cold wave events or only brief spells.
New Delhi: An intense cold wave has gripped Maharashtra, with several parts of the state recording temperatures of below 10 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a sharp dip in the minimum temperature in the coming days in the state, which is shivering through its harshest winter in five years.
The weather department has issued a cold wave alert for the interior parts of the state. It also forecast a gradual fall in minimum temperature by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the state till December 12. "Cold wave conditions very likely to prevail at isolated places in Madhya Maharashtra during 10th-12th," the IMD said.

Pune witnesses chilly morning
Pune woke up to this winter season's coldest morning as it recorded a single-digit minimum temperature. Six weather stations registered minimum temperatures in single digits, with Pashan reporting a minimum of 8.4 degrees Celsius.
Shivajinagar, IMD’s representative observatory for Pune, registered a minimum of 8.9 degrees Celsius this morning.
Mumbai shivers
Mumbai also witnessed its coldest morning of the season on Tuesday. Temperatures at the Santacruz observatory was recorded at 16.5 degrees Celsius.
