Apple is trying to keep some calm inside its top hardware group after a weekend filled with speculation about a possible high-profile exit. Reports had suggested that Johny Srouji, the senior vice president leading Apple’s custom silicon division, had informed CEO Tim Cook that he was thinking about leaving the company. That raised a lot of concern, especially during a month where Apple has already seen multiple senior people pack their bags.

Srouji has now tried to cool the chatter. An internal memo accessed by Bloomberg shows the chip leader telling his team that he is not going anywhere. He directly addressed the rumours saying “I love my team, and I love my job at Apple, and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.”

These words came after Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the executive was seriously considering new opportunities. Gurman said Cook even tried to convince him to stay with a big pay package and more responsibilities. For Apple watchers, that report sounded very possible. The company is dealing with a period where many familiar faces are walking out.

Srouji has become a big presence in Apple keynotes and digital events. He introduced some of the chips that helped the company gain more control over its hardware. This includes Apple’s in-house cellular modem project with the C series and its new N1 chip that brings Wi Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread connectivity to recent devices. His track record also includes the M1 and its later versions that run MacBooks and iPads.

People in the hardware team trust his leadership. Losing him would have been another worrying headline for investors and employees.

Executive departures continue to stack up

The past week has not been great for Apple’s leadership chart. Here is a quick look at who left recently, based on Bloomberg’s coverage.

• John Giannandrea, who shaped a lot of Apple’s AI strategies, left recently

• Alan Dye, Apple’s UI design boss, moved to Meta

• Kat Adams, the company’s general counsel, is on her way out

• Lisa Jackson, vice president handling environment and policy, is also leaving soon

Before this, Jeff Williams and Luca Maestri had already departed earlier this year. The trend is hard to ignore. Engineers from the famous product design group have gone over to Jony Ive’s new company, now acquired by OpenAI. Around 40 Apple employees were reportedly hired by OpenAI in the last month as per Bloomberg.

Silicon still the heart of Apple’s hardware push

Srouji leads one of the most important shifts inside Apple. Controlling its chips lets the company shape products differently from rivals. C1 and C1X brought a change to the iPhone modem story. The new N1 chips are inside every iPhone 17. This move to internal wireless and connectivity hardware is a major part of the company’s future.

So his reassurance matters. He wants his team to know he is sticking to the plan. He said in the memo “you need to hear from me directly” before telling them again that he enjoys his job.
