New Delhi: ChatGPT, the widely used AI chatbot from OpenAI, encountered a major outage today, leaving users worldwide unable to access the service. During lunchtime, reports began flooding in from across India and other countries. Social media platforms quickly filled with complaints as students, professionals, and tech enthusiasts struggled to get responses from the chatbot. The slowdown affected both the web version and mobile app, making routine tasks difficult and causing a fair bit of confusion.

I wasn’t alone; Downdetector, the online service tracker, registered hundreds of incident reports within just twenty minutes, including more than 400 from users across India. The disruption hit a diverse user base, many relying on ChatGPT for study, work, or just some everyday fun.
The outage, ongoing as of Wednesday afternoon, has affected a large number of users across continents. Network errors and blank responses have been reported from both the website and the app. For example, a student from Mumbai posted online, “I need ChatGPT to finish my assignment!” while another from Jaipur said they’d been locked out of study notes. Not everyone is facing the same level of trouble; some users are reporting intermittent success, but many are stuck with non-responsive screens.
On Downdetector, an uptick in incident reports made it clear the service problem wasn't isolated. “Downdetector is showing me over 400 reports in India alone. Someone please fix ChatGPT!” read one post on X (formerly Twitter), echoing the growing demand for a solution.
OpenAI has acknowledged the issue through its official Network status page, stating, “We’re currently experiencing issues, ChatGPT not displaying responses.” The company has yet to release a detailed statement or estimate when services will return to normal. With no clear fix announced, users have shifted their attention to online forums, hoping for updates and sharing tips on alternative apps and old-school web searches.
