New Delhi: Samsung’s software plans appear to be shifting again, with fresh indications that Bixby may soon receive a major upgrade powered by Perplexity AI. A new leak shared by tipster chunvn8888 has revived discussions around a more capable version of Samsung’s in house assistant, which has seen limited progress in recent years as Gemini became the primary AI layer on Galaxy devices.
Earlier reports had already suggested that Samsung had invested in Perplexity in the United States. The latest leak builds on that, claiming the company is preparing to integrate Perplexity’s AI agent directly into Bixby for more advanced command handling. The rumour has gained traction partly because several Samsung software features have already begun shifting toward multi agent AI models.
According to the tipster, the new Bixby would divide tasks between itself and Perplexity. Basic actions such as alarms or simple reminders would stay within Bixby, while complicated queries or tasks requiring deeper reasoning would be routed to Perplexity.
This model closely resembles Apple’s strategy for Apple Intelligence, where Siri can hand over certain requests to ChatGPT. Samsung is reportedly following a similar path by expanding its AI ecosystem rather than replacing existing tools. The integration is also consistent with earlier signs that Samsung has been exploring closer ties with Perplexity. Earlier this year, Galaxy users in the US received a one year free Perplexity Pro subscription worth 200 dollars which converts to roughly Rs 17000 in India.
A version of this upgrade has already appeared on Samsung’s TV lineup. The latest Bixby implementation on select models includes AI features supported by large language models from Perplexity and Microsoft. The company has not made a detailed announcement, but this rollout strengthens the case for a smartphone level integration.
Despite shifting more attention to Galaxy AI, Samsung has kept Bixby alive across devices. Some of its recent flagships can switch between Bixby and Google’s Gemini depending on what the user is trying to do. This parallel approach to AI assistants makes the Perplexity rumour more plausible than many previous leaks.
The upgraded Bixby is expected to be introduced with the Galaxy S26 series at Unpacked 2026, according to the rumour. Once the flagship debut happens, Samsung could push the feature to older devices through the One UI 8.5 update.
Industry analysts point out that Samsung is unlikely to replace Gemini entirely. Instead, the company may expand its AI stack by working with multiple partners to offer a range of capabilities. Perplexity’s role would likely be in solving multi step, research oriented or context heavy tasks that Bixby and Gemini do not currently handle seamlessly.
The leak also arrives at a time when Apple is reportedly preparing a major AI upgrade for Siri. According to Bloomberg, Apple is exploring the integration of Google’s Gemini model for its revamped assistant arriving around March 2026. With Apple and Samsung both moving toward hybrid assistant frameworks, the next generation of smartphone AI could rely on multiple engines rather than a single primary model.
