Australia is reeling after a terror attack on Sydneys Bondi Beach, where a Hanukkah celebration turned into a scene of mass violence. New South Wales police have classified the shooting as a terror incident, confirming Jewish Australians were deliberately targeted during a public menorah lighting ceremony.
The attack, carried out by a father-son duo, resulted in 15 fatalities and 38 injuries, including a 10-year-old. One 50-year-old assailant was shot dead by police, while his 24-year-old son, Navid Akram, was critically wounded and taken into custody. Akram, of Pakistani origin, is believed to have recently lost his job as a bricklayer.
Investigators discovered an improvised explosive device, raising concerns about the attacks scale. Global leaders, including PM Albanese and PM Modi, condemned the antisemitic act, as authorities continue probing motives and potential extremist links.
