New Delhi: For a while now it has become the same story. Car companies who had big plans for their best known sports car are planning on replacing it with an EV but the market has slowed down and now are reconsidering. Porsche did that with the 718 Boxster and Cayman and now even Alpine is joining this trend.

The successor of their A110 sports car was earlier slated to being electric only but now could be joined by a combustion version, particularly a hybrid. In an interview with UK’s auto magazine Evo, Alpine CEO Philippe Krief has said that the next-generation sports car might come in both electric and hybrid versions.

Krief didn’t give an explanation for this, but there has been a big slowdown in EV adaptation and the falling demand and the not-so-good response to electric sports cars could all be a catalyst for this.

Krief noted that the new A110, which is coming in both hybrid and electric versions, could be arriving around early 2027. It will be coming as a two-seater coupe, a convertible and even have a 2+2 setup with back seats and feel the new car’s design will make the present car look quite aged.

How will the Alpine lineup look?

Alpine’s A110

There is little doubt that the combustion-powered sports car from Alpine will be exciting, but the EV version was any ay going to be a quick car. The electric coupe will come with a dual-motor, rear-wheel-drive setup with more than 464 bhp than the current A390 SUV. It is also likely to use a proven battery pack with a target curb weight of being around 1360 kg.

Alpin also aims to make the battery pack completely replaceable so that owners can upgrade to newer batteries after a period of time and avoid long-term degradation. Alpine hopes that by the time it reaches market, it will be competing with the 718 Boxster and Cayman electric.
