New Delhi: Dodge are positioning themselves as the Stellantis performance brand, having announced recently their intention of making the V8 a standard in the Durango lineup for 2026. The entry-level Gurango GT will come with the brand’s 5.7-litre V8 engine that makes 360 horsepower, which is 65 bhp more than the Pentastar V6 it will be replacing.
Of course, this extra four horsepower makes the Dodge $ 4,000 more expensive and will be priced $44,490 in the USA.
The R/T comes with a powertrain update as well, with Dodge swapping a 5.7-litre V8 with a 6.4-litre V8 392 that can make 470 bhp and 644 Nm of torque. It is 115 bhp more than the existing engine. Dodge haven’t given a pricing specification yet, though they have said it will cost less than $50,000. The 2025 R/T was $49,995 until the $1995 destination charge.
Dodge have already detailed the 2026 SRT Hellcat, which will be a revamped Jailbreak trim. It gives many more customisation options and will even have six wheel choices, five interior colours and even more. It has Dodge’s supercharged 6.2-litre V8 that makes 710 bhp and 874 Nm. Though the entry price will be increasing here for the Durango, the SRT Hellcat, in fact, will be less expensive.
The sudden change to the Internal Combustion Engine had been something CEO Matt McAlear had said before, noting the brand’s inclination towards ICE cars. With a change in administration, Dodge feels a lot freer to come back to ICE cars without being penalised heavily. However, McAlear also noted that they weren’t completely abandoning the EV-powered cars simply because they provide power and performance of great level.
