New Delhi: Earlier this year, Dodge had announced the 2026 Durango lineup, but the brand had ditched the SUV’s V6 engine for an all-V8 powertrain. However, the six-cylinder engine is making a comeback for the Durango GT trim. The 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 makes 295 bhp and 352 Nm of torque like before.

This will sit below the Hemi-powered GT that makes 360 bhp made from Dodge’s 5.7-litre V8. Dodge have said that they resurrected the V6 engine option because the supply of Hemi engines “ramps up”. The 2026 Durango GT with the V6 will be slightly more expensive than the 2025 model, but will be cheaper than the GT Hemi by a long shot and for a little premium over the price, the V6 can also come as all-wheel drive.

Without the V6 trim, the Durango was quite an expensive three-row SUV and faced competition from the likes of Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Explorer, Kia Telluride and the lot. Despite the V8’s fame, it is an ageing segment.

For the third generation, the Dodge Durango came into production in 2010 for the 2011 model year, and it was introduced with the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 under the hood. The SUV has been upgraded several times over the last 15 years, with a new Durango likely coming in 2029, but buyers will be getting more or less the same features from the model until then.

Dodge continues to offer the SUDV with the 6.4-litre Hemi V8, which makes about 475 bhp in the Durango R/T, and the Durango SRT Hellcat comes with more power. It gets a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 and makes 710 bhp. DOdge has always been a symbol of raw power, and even the V6 by standards is quite a powerful, tough car.
