How numbers look for Maruti Suzuki’s Ahmedabad plant

Maruti Suzuki, having started production across four plants in India, have set themselves a target of 20 per cent sales from exports itself by FY31, and the magnitude of this growth is almost unfathomable.

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki has been the biggest manufacturer in India for more than two decades now. The brand has dominated the Indian markets, building a strong customer base in India. During the launch of the e-Vitara, a glimpse of the Hasalpur plant, which has a capacity of rolling out 7.5 lakh cars every year. 

For the FY2025, a total of 3,32,00 cars were exported by the company while 19 lakh units were sold domestically. Suzuki has targeted producing 67,000 electric vehicles in the financial year 2026. Most of this will be exported of course.

Over all it is known for the production of Baleno, Swift, Dzire and Fronx. Along with Jimny, these were among top most exported models from the company in 2024-25 when the export volumes had 3.3 lakh, their highest ever in any financial year. The numbers were a 17.5 per cent growth over previous year.

In fact, in India, their contribution to passenger vehicle exports is 40 per cent. By FY31, the company is targeting 20 per cent sales from exports itself. From the Ahmedabad plant, the Fronx in particular has been a star. Debuting in 2023’s April, the export of the Fronx started that very year, going on sale in Latin America, the Middle East and African markets.

Maruti Suzuki in India operated through three production facilities located in Gurgaon and Manesar in Haryana and Hansalpur in Gujarat until 2024. Their total production capacity is 2.35 millions in a year. The future production the company has said is to increase production capacity to 4 million units. For this the company has opened the Kharkhoda plant that commenced production in 2025. 

With the arrival of e-Vitara, Suzuki are covering most bases in the passenger vehicle segment. This will not just be made in India for India, but a huge number of the cars will be exported as well.
