New Delhi: Tesla launched the Model Y in India this July, offering two trims, the Standard RWD and Long Range RWD, with a range claimed up to 622 km according to the WLTP cycles. The American brand has now increased the WLT-claimed range of the top spec Long Range model to 661 km.
Tesla have offered the fully-loaded Long Range RWD trim with a 78.1 kWh battery pack, which now gets a 39 km bump in range. According to reports, this has been achieved through a bigger 82.4 kWh battery pack. The electric motor on the rear axle remains unchanged, with the trim still going from 0-100 kph in 5.6 seconds.
The standard RWD trim continues with the 64 kWh battery pack and a claimed WLTP range of 500 km. The 299 bhp rear-axle-mounted electric motor remains unchanged. Apart from the bigger battery pack and the claimed added range, nothing much has changed, and the exterior and interior features remain just the same.
While the battery pack is updated, Tesla haven’t hiked the pricing of the Model Y. The Standard trim comes at Rs 59.89 lakh, and the Long Range trim is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh. Tesla recently even launched the cheaper version of the Model Y, though it hasn’t been confirmed if it is coming to India. Tesla’s sales in India have been underwhelming, and there are still concerns about the brand.
Even though it has the novelty element to it, there are many vehicles in the EV range, from the cheaper variants in Tata and Mahindra to the luxury brands of Mercedes and Audi, which have a good presence in the country.
