New Delhi: Land Rover India have priced the Defender 110 Trophy Edition SUV at Rs 1.30 crore. The special edition off-roader comes with quite a few cosmetic upgrades, exclusive off-road accessories and gets just a diesel automatic powertrain in the ‘110’ body variant.

The Trophy Edition or the ‘Camel Trophy’ is an off-road vehicle-oriented competition that started in 1980 and was held annually until 2000. The event took its name from the Camel cigarette brand, which was their main sponsor and was also called the “Olympics of 4/4”. The Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition was launched in June of this year and coincides with the new global Defender Trophy competition that supports the conservation partner Tusk in Africa.

History of the Camel Trophy

Land Rover Defender 110 Trophy Edition history

Back in 1980, the “Camel Trophy” competition took place with three German teams that were exploring the Amazon Basin through Jeep SUVs. However, from there, the Land Rover became the brand of choice for the organisers in order to provide support cars for events in the future.

The entirety of the Land Rover range, which then included the Range Rover, Land Rover Series III, Land Rover 90, Land Rover 110, Land Rover Defender, Land Rover Discovery and Freelander, were used in the competition. All came with a unique ‘Sandlow’ colour scheme from which the current edition takes inspiration.
