New Delhi: For a while, Toyota have been quite busy, having recently announced Century to be a spin-off into a new entity, that will stand above the Lexus, in their top-of-the-tree luxury brand. For Lexus, they might bring a six-wheeled MPV into production as well.
However, the biggest news comes with the successor of Lexus LFA that is to be unveiled on December 5th. Toyota have launched a countdown page for the supercar, and even though it won’t debut in the Japan Mobility Show, it will premiere on December 5th, following the car’s first appearance in January 2025.
This marks Toyota’s third supercar, following the 2000GT and Lexus LFA. The brand, during a livestream, gave a glimpse of the engine sound, starting with the classic car’s inline-six, followed by the V10 and then in what sounds like a V8.
As opposed to earlier reports, the new supercar will come with a Toyota badge. Recently, Toyota unveiled all three supercars and revealed the GR logo for the upcoming model. If it is badged as a Gazoor Racing, then it will definitely come as a Toyota product. In fact, the countdown is hosted on the Toyota Gazoo Racing official website.
There were rumours that the road legal would have Lexus badging and the track version would bear the Toyota GR badging, but that now looks unlikely. That is, if Toyota doesn’t plan on selling the road-legal car under the Lexus bracket in North America.
Toyota have been hinting at the car for a while, with the first coming in Tokyo Auto Salon in 2022 when it was shown as a GR GT3 Concept.
No matter what badge it wears, all signs, though hint that it will come with a hybrid powertrain, with prototypes at Nurburgring coming with yellow warning stickers. These are mandatory at Nordschleife in order to signal safety crews in case of an accident that the vehicle contains a high-voltage electrical system.
Even though the brand has come up with sporty electric versions previously, they have never brought them in production. Media reports suggest that the car’s engine will be using two turbochargers, and the body will be making heavy use of carbon fibre over an aluminium chassis to keep the weight down.
