New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki, one of the most trusted car brands in India, is getting ready to launch a brand-new midsize SUV on September 3. This upcoming SUV, which will compete with the Hyundai Creta, is currently known by its internal code name Y17, however the leaked report says that the new SUV might be called Escudo. While Maruti could choose a different name for global markets.

The upcoming Maruti SUV comes up with a similar look to the Grand Vitara as the Ertiga shares with the XL6. As Maruti's Arena outlets are likely to sell Ertiga at a more affordable price, this new SUV will also come with a lower-priced model. On the other hand, the XL6 and Grand Vitara are more premium vehicles, which is why they’re sold through the Nexa showroom network, however this SUV will be sold through Maruti’s wide Arena dealership network.

The all new Creta rival Maruti Suzuki SUV has the same powertrain as the  Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. This SUV is geared up with three engine options, fulfilling customer needs according to their use. The SUV comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 103 hp. The petrol engine comes with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox (torque converter). The automatic version will also offer all-wheel drive (AWD), while the rest of the variants will have front-wheel drive (FWD) only. The CNG variant comes with 88hp, while the Hybrid model comes with  fuel efficiency along with 116hp.

Why Arena Showrooms

Maruti has come up with a plan of listing their new SUV in their Arena showrooms due to its large availability compared to the NEXA outlets. They have only 600 NEXA outlets available while Maruti has their 3000 Arena showrooms across India. With this plan they can ensure that gradually more customers can catch their new SUV.

As in comparison with sales of Hyundai Creta which were sold from about 1,300 showroom while the Grand Vitara from around NEXA 600 outlets. Maruti main goal is to provide people an high end alternation option in the category of mid size SUV along with contenders like Volkswagen Taigun and upcoming Skoda Kushaq facelift.
