New Delhi: A while back, Mercedes-Benz had announced the electric GLC, and it had an impressive performance figure of 483 bhp. However, as soon as AMG takes over, that figure could just double, according to the latest news reports. Autocar recently reported that AMG wants the GLC to go 0-100 kph in under three seconds.

The SUV is being reported to have three axial-flux motors, one at the front and two at the back. Combined, they will be producing over 900 bhp, and the top speed should be around 250 kph. The AMG version will be using the AMG Electric Architecture (AMG.EA), which Mercedes previewed with the GT XX Concept. The super sedan revealed at the start of the year was going to make 1,340 bhp and had a top speed of 358 kph.

How will Mercedes AMG achieve high performance from the GLC?

Mercedes AMG GLC will get visual upgrades

To achieve this performance, the key will be the battery, which will be using cylindrical cells over prismatic ones and feature direct cooling. This lets the coolant flow directly around each cylinder, which the SUV needs in order to keep the high-performance output intact.

Automakers might be stepping back on their electrification efforts, but quite a few important player are continuing with their investment in battery technology. The electric AMG GLC will likely serve as a rival to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, which will deliver about the same power and performance.

When the AMG GLC debuts, it will mimic the sensations and sounds of a traditional combustion-engine car quite like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N offers. It will feature artificial gearshift effects and synthesised engine sounds, which will be a new version of skeuomorphism.

Mercedes AMG GLC will get sports seats

The high-performance GLC should also come with loads of AMG-specific visual upgrades, including unique fascias and active aerodynamics. On the inside, it is expected to get sport seats and AMG touches everywhere.

For Mercedes-AMG, it will be an important year, with a new performance car followed by an SUV. The carmaker had shown that last year and is expected to arrive with 1000 bhp.
