New Delhi: Ola Electric Mobility have recently filed a new four-wheeler design patent application in India, which might indicate a future launch. Even though the exact dimensions haven’t been given, at first look, the design appears incredibly like the MG Comet, even though that is a two-door car.

A while back, Ola had also teased an electric sedan concept, whose patent images had surfaced, but the development was put on hold, reportedly to focus on mass-market electric scooters.

It is expected that the compact EV will be based on Ola’s new Gen 4 base. As their 2025 Sankalp event, Ola had said that the modular architecture is compatible with 2 and 3-wheelers, along with drones and humanoids, which will give it economies of scale. The company also noted that this platform will support vehicles that are lighter and more energy-efficient and also leverage Ola’s independently developed and made 4680 cells, which recently got the Automotive Research Association of India’s (ARAI) approval. The battery size and single-charge range are still unknown

Troubles for Ola in recent times

Ola has been facing a huge number of complaints from customers regarding service issues, poor after-sales service and misleading advertisements. Earlier reports had also claimed allegations of insider trading and violations related to trade certificates.

In the first six months of 2025, Ola sales saw a dip to 1.15 lakh units from 2.29 lakh units during the same period last year, according to Vahan data. Monthly sales too have declined, and the company’s share of the electric two-wheeler market has fallen from their peak at around 50 per cent to 20 per cent, losing to the big players like TVS and Bajaj.
