New Delhi: Maserati have unveiled two very exclusive one-offs of the GranCabrio and GranTurismo. Named as the GranCabrio Meccanica Lirica and GranTurismo Meccanica Lirica, these one-off special editions mark the return of production of both models to Maserati’s HQ in Modena, where all previous generations of the GranCabrio and GranTurismo have been produced.
Until now, this generation of the two cars have been made in the Mirafori plant in Turin. The GranTurismo and GranCabrio, including the all-electric Folgore versions, will now be produced on the same line as the McPura and McPura Cielo at the Modena factory. Maserati have said that the relocation took them only 45 days.
Due to their connection with the city of Modena, these one-offs have been inspired by the theatre world and opera, both of which are equally of cultural importance in the city.
The biggest striking feature is the exterior paint finish of Rosso Velluto for the GranTurismo and Oro Lirico for the GranCabrio. Made through a process of pigmentation layering, both these colours change their hue depending on how light interacts with the surface of the car.
The two models get 21-inch wheels finished in black and matte white gold. The matte white gold treatment also extends to the badges on the GranTurismo, while on the GranCabrio, it is finished in matte Rosso Velluto in order to make a contrasting look. All trident logos (on the grille and fenders) come with a gold finish, and there’s also a “Freats a Modena” badge on the driver's side of the door panel.
On the interior, the GranTurismo and GranCabrio Meccanica Lirica models come with a mix of leather and Alcantara upholstery. Maserati have used burgundy leather for the dashboard and door panels, with the seats getting nude Alcantara finish. There’s also a lot of gold accents around the cabin and specifically on the Sonus faber speaker grilles to highlight the model’s tribute and connection to opera music.
The Meccanica Lirica editions are derived from the top-spec Trofeo variants of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio. They come with the same 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 550 bhp and 650 Nm of torque, and is mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Even though there are no mechanical upgrades, Maserati has reworked the exhaust system, which gives a more expressive sound.
It comes with a new gold-finished design and updated software calibration to deliver smoother valve control and distinct exhaust tones based on driving modes.
These enhancements are unique to the one-off models. Maserati is further offering a new Meccanica Lirica package, letting customers add select exclusive touches to the standard GranTurismo and GranCabrio. The package will be available on request, but its individual components cannot be selected separately.
