New Delhi: Toyota have announced that they will end Supra production next March, with the 2026 model being the car’s final model year. Toyota had in April introduced the "Final Edition” and this news was around the corner. Toyota issued a small press release confirming the news.

In their release, the brand thanked the patronage that the Supra had received over the years and have said that potential customers can go for the alternatives from the brand. Toyota had introduced the fifth-gen Supra in 2019 at the Detroit Auto Show, with sales commencing in the United States before the end of the year following a 17-year absence.

Toyota had, in the 2010s, hinted at the return of the Supra and teased the sports car in 2014 as the GT-1 concept. Toyota debuted as a collaboration with BMW, sharing the platform and powertrains with the Z4. The Supra initially debuted with a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine, the B58 sourced from BMW and mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and later even had a 2.0-litre inline-four B48 engine.

Even though it came originally with the ZF eight-speed automatic, it also got the six-speed manual specifically for the inline-six engine. The 2026 Toyota Supra MkV Final Edition that is sold in the US makes 382 bhp and has a torque of 523 Nm, which makes it go 0-100 kph in just 3.9 seconds.

The Final Edition is also going to Japan and Europe, where it is making just 300 units for the two markets and will have an output of 429 bhp and 569 Nm with the upgraded B58 engine.

Even though the production is ending, the Supra won’t be going forever as the brand is hinting at a successor, though there could be a gap between generations. Of course, it is a legendary title and one of the finest specimens of JDM. Of course, the hope for enthusiasts would be that the gap from the next generation won’t be as big as the one between the fourth and fifth generations.
