New Delhi: Vietnamese EV-maker VinFast is all set to reveal the prices of its first cars for India next week. The company, which recently began assembling vehicles at its new plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, will launch the VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs on September 6, 2025. Bookings opened last month at ₹21,000, and the first car to roll out of the Indian facility was the VF7.
The brand enters a competitive field with two e-SUVs aimed directly at mainstream buyers. The VF6 is expected to take on midsize EVs like the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE.06, and Hyundai Creta EV. Meanwhile, the larger VF7 will slot into a segment where Mahindra’s XEV 9e and the upcoming Tata Harrier EV are also preparing for launch.
The VinFast VF6 will come with a 59.6 kWh battery powering a front-mounted 204 hp motor. On the WLTP cycle, the EV is rated at 480 km per charge, though Indian-specific ARAI or MIDC figures are yet to be disclosed. Based on current expectations, the VF6 should carry an on-road price between ₹20–25 lakh.
The VF6’s size and numbers put it squarely in contention with some of India’s most anticipated EVs. For context, Tata’s Curvv EV is expected in a similar bracket, while the MG ZS EV already has a strong presence. The real question is whether VinFast can back its range claim with everyday efficiency suited to Indian driving conditions.
The VF7 is a larger SUV and comes with more flexibility. Its 70.8 kWh battery is paired with either a single-motor 2WD layout (204 hp) or a dual-motor AWD option producing 350 hp and 500 Nm. The WLTP range is 450 km for the 2WD and 431 km for the AWD variant.
VinFast is likely to price the VF7 between ₹25–30 lakh on-road. That means it will overlap with larger Indian EVs like the Mahindra XEV 9e and Tata Harrier EV, both of which aim for a balance of size, tech, and driving appeal. The AWD VF7, if priced aggressively, could appeal to buyers looking for more power in this price band, something rare in today’s EV market.
VinFast’s choice to assemble its EVs locally from the start is significant. Tamil Nadu has already become a hub for EV manufacturing, with Hyundai, Ola, and BYD setting up operations there. For VinFast, producing the VF7 first at its new facility signals a long-term plan for the Indian market.
The success of these models will depend not only on their specs but also on how VinFast handles after-sales service, charging infrastructure partnerships, and brand awareness. The company is still new to Indian buyers, so trust will have to be built quickly.
