Amitabh Kant to join IndiGo board; InterGlobe Aviation shares in focus

Former Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has joined IndiGo board, following which InterGlobe Aviation shares are expected to be in focus. Investec has predicted IndiGo stock to decline.

Mumbai: Former Niti Aayog CEO and India's G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director by IndiGo parent company InterGlobe Aviation. With the appointment of Kant, the shares of the airline will be in focus. The stocks were trading in the positive at Rs 5,798 per equity share at around 10:44 am on July 4, 2025.

Notably, brokerage firm Investec has projected the InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) shares to decline. While estimating a downfall of the stock, the brokerage said the counter could fall to Rs 4,050.

InterGlobe Aviation released a statement confirming the appointment of Kant, saying that his appointment to the board is subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.

Amitabh Kant had resigned as India's G20 Sherpa in June 2025.

"IndiGo is delighted to welcome Amitabh Kant as a Board member. Kant is a distinguished personality with rich administrative experience at the national and global levels. His leadership qualities developed over the years by managing and delivering successful projects of global scale will benefit IndiGo immensely, especially in its fast-paced international expansion," said Vikram Singh Mehta, Chairman of the Board of Directors of IndiGo.

Heaping praise on Kant’s leadership qualities, Mehta said that IndiGo's team can learn from the vast experience and knowledge of the former Niti Aayog CEO, which could help the airline achieve its vision of becoming a global player by 2030.

While serving at Niti Aayog, Amitabh Kant was associated as Director on the Board of the National Highways Authority of India and Member of India's National Statistical Commission.

Commenting on his new role, Kant expressed happiness in joining InterGlobe Aviation’s board and expressed confidence in taking IndiGo achieve new height and become a major international player in the airline industry.

"I am delighted to join the Board of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd (IndiGo). With its scale, efficiency, and international ambition, IndiGo will open up new markets for India and transform our airports into global hubs of connectivity and commerce, driving tourism, trade, and investment, while linking people, markets, and opportunities across borders.
