Indian Railways New Chart Timing: Early Confirmation for Waiting List & RAC Passengers

New Delhi: If you often travel by train and are worried about the waiting list or RAC ticket till the last minute, then there is good news for you. Indian Railways has made a big change in the timing of preparing the reservation chart. The purpose of this new rule is to inform passengers about ticket confirmation in time and reduce unnecessary stress.

The Ministry of Railways said that passengers going on long journeys face more difficulties. Many people come from remote areas to catch a train from a railway station and till the last minute they do not get the information whether their ticket has been confirmed or not.

According to the new guidelines, the first reservation chart of trains which will depart between 5:01 am and 2 pm will now be prepared one day earlier by 8 pm. This will enable passengers to know the status of their reservation well in advance. At present the reservation status is made available four hours prior to departure of the train. The new reservation chart timing will help passengers to arrange well in advance if their tickets are confirmed.

For trains which depart between 2:01 pm and 11.59 pm, the first reservation chart will be prepared at least 10 hours before departure. That means travelers will know their travel status 10 hours earlier.

Those with the waiting list and RAC tickets will get the most benefit from this change. Earlier, where passengers expected confirmation only after reaching the station, now they will be able to decide in advance whether to travel or make alternative arrangements. This will save time, money and stress.

Increasing trend of booking tickets from IRCTC

Railways also said that now most of the people are using the IRCTC website or app for booking tickets. Online booking is being preferred rather than the counters of railway stations. According to recent data, more than 87 percent of the total reserve tickets booked in Indian Railways are e-tickets.

This step of Railways has been taken keeping in mind the convenience of passengers and it is expected that the travel experience will be better than before.
