A special council meeting has been called at the GHMC office on Tuesday over the merger of 27 municipalities and municipal corporations along with ward delimitation. The exercise to increase the number of wards from 150 to 300 after the expansion of GHMC has drawn ire from all quarters.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) continued to receive objections to ward delimitation exercise from ordinary citizens and legislators from Congress, BJP and BRS, tv9 telugu reported.
On Monday alone, 1,774 objections were received, taking the total number of objections to 3,102.
Opposition questions govt:
City public representatives objected to the exercise saying that the division process in GHMC is unscientific and illogical. Expectedly, BRS and BJP have also hit out at the civic body and said that they would move court if it continued without addressing objections.
BRS leaders described the delimitation as arbitrary and unplanned and said that there was no consultation and that there was absence of policy.
BRS MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav questioned the urgency of merging 27 civic bodies in ORR limits into GHMC and doubling number of divisions without involving political parties or seeking public opinion. He further stated that it lacked transparency in fixing ward division boundaries.
BJP echoed BRS concerns and GHMC Deputy floor leader Koppula Narasimha Reddy said that the delimitation exercise was flawed and boundaries were drawn without scientific norms.
RV Karnan assures leaders:
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan has assured the public representatives that their concerns will be discussed at the special council meeting set to take place on Tuesday at the GHMC head office.
