9 dead, 22 wounded after bus falls into gorge in Andhra Pradesh; PM announces ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh

The bus which was carrying 35 passengers, and two drivers, was headed to Telangana from Chittoor district.

Chittoor: At least nine people have been killed and 22 were wounded after a bus fell into a gorge in Alluri Seetharamaraju district on Friday morning , tv9 telugu reported.

The bus which was carrying 35 passengers, and two drivers, was headed to Telangana from Chittoor district.

SP Amit Bardar said that the accident occurred at around 4.30 am on Chintoor-Maredumili ghat road near a Durga Temple. The passengers were identified as residents of Chittoor district.

Speaking to the media, Bardar said that the bus did not fully plunge into the valley. It turned turtle and got stuck, he said. The bus driver reportedly did not see a curve at the site due to heavy fog. The passengers were on their way to Ram temple in Telangana’s Bhadrachalam from Chittoor district.

AP CM Chandrababu Naidu: Will stand by families of deceased

AP CM Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the incident and ordered relief measures. The CM has also said that he directed local authorities to take necessary steps to make sure injured individual s receive better medical treatment. “The government will stand by the families of those who lost their lives in the accident,” he said.

PM announces ex-gratia:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences on the loss of life and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.

“An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” he said in a statement on social media platform X.
