Andhra Pradesh cabinet on Thursday, September 4, has taken several key decisions, one of which is the implementation of universal healthcare policy to offer better medical services for the people of AP.
The policy is expected to benefit at least 1.63 crore families in the state.
What medical services are available under the policy?
In a press conference, Minister Koluthi Parthsarathi said that quality treatment will be available for free of cost to five crore people in the state.
Insurance companies will cover health insurance ranging from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh while the NTR Vidya Seva Trust will cover insurance ranging from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh for families who fall below the poverty line.
At least 3,257 health services will be included under the policy and approvals for treatment will be given within six hours of being admitted to the hospital. NTR Vidya Seva Trust control room will monitor free health services.
Cabinet approves proposal to build medical colleges:
Meanwhile, the cabinet has also approved a proposal to build 10 more medical colleges in public private partnership mode. Medical colleges will be established in Adoni, Madanapalle, Markapuram, Pulivendula, Penugonda, Palakollu, Amalapuram, Narsipatnam, Bapatla and Parvathipuram in two phases. Other decisions include waiving of stamp duty on lands allocated to educational institutions and hospitals in Amaravati Capital Region.
