Mild earthquake in Visakhapatnam, ASR districts; no loss of life reported

Seismologists suggest that the quake measured about 3.7 on the Richter scale.

Visakhapatnam: A mild earthquake shook Vizag and Alluri Sitharamaraju districts in the early hours of Tuesday, November 4, causing some panic in residents, reports said.

The tremors which occurred around 4.18 a.m., were felt in Arilova, Adivivaram, Madhavadhara, Akkayyapalem, HB Colony, Allipuram, Bheemili, and Pendurthi areas.

Seismologists suggest that the quake measured about 3.7 on the Richter scale and classified it as a low intensity event. The ground shook for a brief moment, followed by a loud rumbling noise, reports said. Social media users also reported that mild tremors were felt in some areas. No property damage or loss of life have been reported.

Karnataka earthquake:

A minor earthquake on 3.1 Richter scale also occurred in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district, as per National Center for Seismology (NCS).

It also comes shortly after a powerful earthquake shook northern Afghanistan on November 3, killing 20 people and wounding 640 people. The quake has damaged the historic Blue Mosque.
