At least 23 people have fallen ill with symptoms of diarrhoea and in New Rajarajeswari Peta in Vijayawada and about 20 of them have been admitted to the Government General Hospital, tv9 telugu reported.
The cases have been reported between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning while the last case was reported on Sept 10 at around 10 am. Two of them have been treated and discharged and others are stable and on medication, NTR District Collector G Lakshmisha said.
“20 people are being treated and it will continue for three days,” the hospital medical superintendent Dr Venkateswara Rao said.
Collector G Lakshmisha has said that the supply of tap water has been stopped in the area as a precautionary measure and tank water is being supplied.
When asked about the precise reason of the outbreak, the collector said it was too early to comment. ASHA workers have been directed to carry out a door-to-door survey to identify symptoms of diarrhoea and medical team, ambulances are on standby to assist affected people.
Water samples from the area have been sent to test for bacterial load. Three samples have been sent to Institute of Preventive Medicine in Hyderabad, to test for biological contamination.
Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has inquired about diarrhoea outbreak in the city and asked the collector to monitor the health of the affected people.
