Young woman from AP dies in US; family launches fundraiser to bring body back to India

Vijayawada: A 23-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh died in her sleep in the USA on Friday, November 7, reports said.

The student Rajyalakshmi Yarlagadda, recently graduated from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi campus and had been searching for a job after completing her studies.

Rajyalakshmi had been suffering from a severe cough and chest pain for three days before passing away in her sleep. On November 7, when her alarm bell rang, she did not wake up, her cousin Chaitanya YVK said.

Cousin launches GoFundMe campaign:

A fundraiser has been launched on GoFundMe from Denton, Texas to fund the funeral expenses, to transport her body back to India, repayment of educational loans and financial support for her parents.

In the GFM appeal, Chaitanya wrote that Raji came to the US with hopes and dreams to build a better life for her family. “She was a hopeful soul who hoped that she could help her parents continue their farming in Karamchedu, Bapatla district of Andhra Pradesh.”

The small farmland, crops and livestock was her family’s primary livelihood and Raji was the youngest member of their family. She had hoped to support her family financially once she got employment in the US. Her untimely demise left her family heartbroken and in financial hardship.

A medical examination is underway to determine the exact cause of her death. Indian community in Texas has supported the request to expedite the process to send her body to India. The consulate in Texas is expected to assist with formalities.
