Chennai: Just a day before its scheduled theatrical release, Sivakarthikeyan’s highly anticipated period drama Parasakthi has been granted a U/A 16+ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after incorporating 25 modifications, paving the way for its pan-India release on January 10.
Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film—which revisits Tamil Nadu’s anti-Hindi imposition agitations of the 1960s—underwent significant dialogue and visual edits to meet censor guidelines. The changes notably tone down direct references to Hindi and modify politically charged lines.

Release on Track, Advance Bookings Open
With the censor clearance secured, advance bookings have opened and are reportedly seeing a strong response nationwide. The film stars Sivakarthikeyan, Sreeleela, Ravi Mohan, and Atharvaa, and is set against the backdrop of the historic language protests.
The timely certification contrasts with the ongoing legal battle surrounding Vijay’s Jananaayagan, which has been postponed indefinitely after the Madras High Court stayed its censor certification. Parasakthi is now positioned as one of the major Pongal releases, carrying a toned-down but still potent political narrative that continues to resonate in contemporary Tamil Nadu.
