Hyderabad: Telangana Office of Director of Public Health and Family Welfare issued a general health advisory to safe guard against seasonal flu as temperatures drop across the state.

Seasonal flu is an acute, contagious respiratory infection characterized by fever, cough, sore throat, body ache and fatigue and spreads easily between people when they cough and sneeze.

The statement said that vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children and the elderly and people with chronic medical conditions are at greater risk of severe illness and if they develop seasonal flu, they are advised to consult a doctor.

Government hospitals are prepared and the advisory said the public should follow hygiene, avoid crowds and should not self-medicate.

 Cold wave in Telangana/Hyderabad:

The outskirts of Hyderabad and its peripheral areas of Moinabad, Ibrahimpatnam recorded 6.5°C and 7.5°C while University of Hyderabad in Serilingampally mandal has recorded 8.1°C on Thursday morning, which is lower than the temperature recorded on Wednesday at 9.6°C.

Peak cold wave from Dec 18:

The upcoming week is expected to be the peak of another cold wave in the state. “Temperatures to drop less than 6-7°C in North, West Telangana and less than 7-9°C in few parts of Hyderabad City in next 4 days,” independent weather blogger T Balaji said.

IMD Hyderabad said that fog, misty conditions are likely to prevail during morning hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30°C and 13°C respectively. Surface winds are likely to be north-easterlies with wind speed of 4-6 kmph.
