“I had no intention of hurting or defaming Akkineni Nagarjuna Garu or his family members. I regret any unintended impression given in my statements in relation to them and withdraw the same,” the statement read.

What comments did Konda Surekha make in October 2024?

The expression of regret comes after the minister dragged Akkineni family into a political controversy while criticising BRS leader KT Rama Rao. In remarks made to the press, she suggested that KTR was involved in the highly publicised divorce of actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Prabhu.

Surekha indicated that KTR had improper relations with Samantha. “KTR asked him to send Samantha in return for not demolishing the N-Convention centre. Nagarjuna forced Samantha to go to KTR and she didn’t want to. That led to divorce.”

Nagarjuna sues Konda Surekha for Rs 100 crore:

In response to it, Nagarjuna and much of the film industry condemned the remarks and stated that the remarks deeply damaged the family’s long-standing reputation. Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya later filed a criminal defamation case in Nampally court for Rs 100 crore.

The father and son duo appeared before Nampally court to record their statements in the case. The case hearings continued over the last year, with the minister filing her reply.

The case is set to come up for a hearing on Wednesday, November 12 and her apology could once again become a point of discussion.
