Google launches AI app builder Opal in India: build apps by just typing

Google has expanded its experimental AI app builder, Opal, to India and 14 other countries. The tool allows anyone to create apps by simply describing them in words, with new upgrades like faster performance and step-by-step debugging.

New Delhi: Building apps often feels like something only coders can do. Google now wants to change that with Opal, its experimental AI tool that creates mini web apps just from a written description. After first launching in the US in July, the company has decided to expand Opal to 15 new countries, including India, Brazil, Japan, South Korea and Canada.

The wider rollout is happening because Google says it was surprised by how people used the tool. Early users built not only small fun apps but also “complex and practical” ones. That early feedback has pushed the company to take Opal global.

How Google Opal works

The idea is simple. You type what kind of app you want, and Opal generates it. It creates the inputs, the outputs and even visual workflows that you can then tweak inside a simple editor. When you are happy with the result, the app can be published and shared through a link.

In many ways, it is like chatting with AI to build something useful. For non-developers, this could make prototyping quick and easy. It also adds to a growing wave of “no-code AI” tools from other players like Canva, Figma and Replit. The line between developer and creator is getting blurry, and Opal is part of that story.

What’s new with the rollout

Google has added some important upgrades as part of this expansion. Debugging now allows users to run workflows step by step and fix errors directly in the visual editor. This keeps everything no-code but makes the process clearer for beginners.

Performance has also been improved. Apps generate faster, and users can now execute multiple workflow steps in parallel. That means even more complex projects can be handled without long wait times.

Why India matters in the rollout

India is one of the largest internet markets in the world with over a billion subscribers. Adding India to Opal’s list signals how important the country is for new AI experiments. Local creators and startups could use the tool to quickly test app ideas or even build small solutions for communities.

Along with India, the countries added in this rollout are Canada, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil, Singapore, Colombia, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panamá, Honduras, Argentina and Pakistan.
