New Delhi: Volvo Cars have revealed the new XC70 as a plug-in hybrid vehicle in the Chinese market. It was previously known to be an off-roader version of the V70 station. However, in its 2025 incarnation, it is an SUV that will sit between the brand’s XC60 and XC90 SUVs. It has been created in order to meet the demand in China for a plug-in hybrid with a longer range and is confirmed to be going to Europe, though it isn’t known if it is going to come to India as of now.

The petrol-hybrid configuration gets a range of 1,200 km according to China’s testing cycle. The electric-only range of above 200 km is the highest for any car from Volvo. It will also come with all-wheel drive and will be offered with San UV, with the battery supporting a fast charger, going from 0-80 per cent in just 23 minutes. Unlike most PHEVs, it will also get bi-directional charging capability.

The XC70 takes most of its design elements from other Volvo cars, including the Thor’s Hammer DRLs and C-shaped tail-lights as well. The front section is fully sealed, including the nose and the bumper, coming with an active shutter system that opens and closes automatically. It is inspired by Volvo EVs, with the shutter improving aerodynamics, cabin climate and even cooling. The bumper also gets Matrix LED headlights, which adapt to traffic and road conditions.

The XC70 design gets smooth lines that flow from front to back with a gentle sloping roofline. Exteriors also include flush-fitting door handles, aerodynamic alloy wheels and LED taillights as well.

On the inside, the environment is simplistic, with little physical control. The XC70 comes with electric adjustments for front seats, a 12-inch digital cluster, a 15.4 landscape touchscreen, wireless charger and a massive sunroof will be there as well.
