New Delhi: Mercedes-Benz India have launched the AMG CLE 53 Coupe at Rs 1.35 crore (ex-showroom). Sitting right above the CLE 300 Cabriolet, the hotter coupe variant is Rs 20 lakh more. The new CLE coupe makes AMG’s Indian portfolio come with a total of 10 models.

On the inside, the cabin takes most things from the Mercedes CLE 300, coming with an 11.9-inch portrait infotainment screen along with a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and three central AC vents as well. The central touchscreen has amazing graphics and functionality as well.

The coupe, however, gets an AMG-specific three-spoke steering wheel, which is wrapped in Alcantara with red stitching, along with two extra touch controls.

More CLE 53 features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 64-colour ambient lighting, a Burmester sound system, powered seats with memory, a head-up display and a wireless charger. Like all AMG cars, the steering comes with two rotary dials in order to move through driver modes and suspension and exhaust settings. Being an AMG, there’s a Track Pace function as well, which lets users measure acceleration times or lap times and even gets a drift mode.

Mercedes have said the CLE 53 is a 2+2 Coupe, though the back might be too cramped. However, the rear seats get split/fold functionality, which opens more boot space.

Mercedes AMG CLE 54 Coupe Powertrain

Like every AMG model, the engine bay is the highlight of the CLE 53 Coupe, coming with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six combined with a 48V mild-hybrid system, making 449 bhp and 560 Nm (with +40Nm of Overboost). A 9-speed torque converter gearbox channels the output into all four wheels through the Mercedes 4Matic+ system. The CLE 53 can do a claimed 0-100 kph in 4.2 seconds. The top speed is 250 kph or 270 kph with the optional AMG Performance Package.

As far as the engine is concerned, the BMW M2 with 460 bhp and 550 Nm has the best match, though it is priced Rs 32 lakhs more than the BMW, which comes at Rs 1.03 crore.
